How much do you really know about the Heart of England Co-operative Society?

Welcome to the Heart of England Co-operative Society!

Society Membership

By joining the Heart of England Co-operative Society you will become a member of one of the most successful co-operative societies in the country. It is because of our continued success that we can offer you a range of exclusive member privileges and discounts that no other High Street retailer can match. Remember, these savings and other exclusive offers will only be available to you as a member of our Society.

Co-op Retail Trading Group (CRTG)

The CRTG is now the largest and most successful food buying group in cooperative history, supplying food products for co-operative food stores, across the UK. By sourcing products from all over the world, CRTG ensures we can offer our customers greater choice, top quality products and excellent value for money.

"Over the past 12 months we have invested more than £1.9 million in our store renewal programme, bringing the total amount of investment over the past 5 years to £19.3 million."

Fairtrade

At the Heart of England Co-operative Society we are working, through CRTG, with a wide range of groups to do all we can to give people in developing countries decent working conditions.

The Fairtrade mark has been introduced to ensure a better deal for growers and small scale producers in those developing countries. For growers, Fairtrade means prices that will always cover the cost of production and allow for sustainable livelihoods. For workers, Fairtrade means decent working conditions and wages that meet international and local labour standards.

Helping Hearts

In the year 2000 the Heart of England Co-operative Society made the decision to distribute all profits from the sale of tobacco back into the community. Since then more than £686,000 has been made available through the Helping Hearts Awards scheme. The Heart of England Co-operative Society is the only retailer in the world to donate all profits from the sale of tobacco to local worthy causes and to date more than 3,250 local groups and charities have benefited from Helping Hearts Awards.

"Since we launched this scheme in 2000, we are proud to say that over £686,000 has so far been pledged to support local community groups, once again demonstrating the co-op difference."

Ali Kurji, Chief Executive

Amongst the many benefits and exclusive privileges of being a member of our Society is the opportunity for you to become a Director; provided you have had £10 or more in your share account for three accounting years immediately prior to your nomination. As a Director, you would be able to play an active role, help ensure our aims and strategies are in harmony with the Society’s members and ultimately benefit the communities in which we all live.

You need no special qualifications to become a Director, simply a common desire to work with your fellow Directors and members in order to build and sustain a successful Society, whilst sharing a belief in co-operative values and principles.
