FREE TASTING FOR FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT
Shoppers at the Heart of England Co-operative Society are being given the chance to sample the delights of Fairtrade goods in the coming days as part of the annual Fairtrade Fortnight.
The Society, which prides itself as an ethical retailer - sells more than 100 Fairtrade lines – from coffee to wines and from fruit to chocolate.
It is holding in-store tasting sessions at its food stores in Earlsdon and Southam as part of the annual event, until March 7.
Shoppers will be able to taste the goods free of charge, to show Fairtrade goods are as tasty as non-Fairtrade.
Jo Dyke, Community and Membership Adviser at the Heart of England Co-operative Society, said: “We have championed the Fairtrade cause for a decade now and we were the first retailer in the country to develop our own-label Fairtrade range.
“Many farmers in developing countries have to contend with fluctuating prices which in many cases do not cover the price of their crops. The aim of Fairtrade is to pay a fair price to suppliers worldwide, sustaining development in poorer countries by providing better trading conditions and raising awareness of the producers’ plight.
“Our Fairtrade goods are hugely popular and customers who would like to start supporting the Fairtrade movement should look out in our stores for goods with the Fairtrade label.”
Instore tastings will take place at Earlsdon Co-operative food store in Earlsdon Street, Coventry, on March 4th and Southam Co-operative food store in Coventry Road, Southam. On March 2nd.
