NUNEATON CHARITIES SHARE A SLICE OF FUNDING FROM THE HEART OF ENGLAND
CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY’S
HELPING HEARTS AWARD SCHEME

1047Charities and worthy causes in Nuneaton have been awarded a share of £2,185 from the Heart of England Co-operative Society.

The money has come from the Society’s Helping Hearts Award Scheme which donates every penny of the retailer’s tobacco profits to charities and worthy causes across its trading area.

Among those to benefit from the latest round are Nuneaton Carnival organisers who received £250 towards the renovation of the carnival queen float, the Anmol Day Care Centre which received £100 towards fundraising events to help buy a new lift and Arthur Russell Court residential home which received £100 towards an event marking its 30th anniversary. The Bedworth Disabled Swimming Club also gave a £250 cheque to help towards coaching costs.

Nuneaton woman Kelly Coles received £20 for a fundraising event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and the Tracey Porter Dance School was awarded £25 towards a raffle, to raise cash for dance costumes. Also the Parent Teacher Association at Michael Drayton School was awarded £20 towards a summer fair.

Jo Dyke, Community and Membership Adviser at the Heart of England Co-operative Society, said: “Every month we receive a good number of applications from a real mix of groups from across our trading area of Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. This month is no exception and of course we were delighted to do what we can to help.

“Eighty-five per cent of the applications were successful. For those who were not this time there is no reason why the same groups should not re-apply when other projects come up. Next time they may be more successful.”

Anyone who would like to make an application for a donation from Helping Hearts can pick up a form from any one of the Society’s branches.
