SOCIETY INTRODUCES MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY COFFINS

In line with its high standards for environmental concern the Heart of England Co-operative Society’s Funeral Division has introduced more options to its range of environmentally friendly coffins.

The Society, which has 10 funeral homes throughout Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, has received much coverage for its work in helping the environment, including support from the Marine Stewardship Council and Green Apple Awards.

Now it is aiming to meet the needs of client families who want a more ecologically friendly funeral option.

Whilst the existing range of coffins, which are produced in the Midlands, are already environmentally sourced, this new range includes four types of coffin, all made from bio-degradable materials.  The Daisy coffins are made from either Water Hyacinth or Banana Leaf, whilst the Hainsworth coffins are fashioned from organic Wool or Cotton.

The new coffins are much more environmentally friendly and are made from  plentiful and renewable sources. They have been introduced in response to the growing number of consumers who are now more conscious of the need to reduce their environmental footprint.

Darryl Smith, General Manager, Funeral Division, is optimistic about how they will be received.

He said:  “For those with environmental concerns, these coffins offer a more organic and sustainable alternative.

“Whereas some other coffins may have a detrimental effect on the environment, these new coffins harmonise with the natural habitat, and come from a strong renewable source.”

The new coffins are suitable for both burial and cremation, and are designed with both the environment and the client in mind.

“The coffins are also aesthetically very pleasing,” said Darryl. “The drive behind this new offering is to give our clients more options that are environmentally sound, whilst retaining the dignity and reverence associated with a funeral.”
